After an impressive season with a very young ball club that made it all the way to the NLCS the Cubs have added more veteran talent to go along with their young studs. First of all the Cubs added former Cardinal John Lackey to the roster which bolstered an already impressive starting rotation. The moves did not stop there however, next the Cubs signed one of Joe Maddon’s favorite players, the versatile Ben Zobrist. Zobrist is a utility man with a good bat that can play almost any position on the field. Zobrist is the typical pro who goes to work day in and day out and never complains about anything. The final signing and perhaps the biggest was Jason Heyward. The Cubs signed Heyward away from the division rival Cardinals. The Cubs signed Heyward for $184 million over 8 years with 2 opt out clauses for Heyward in year 3 and 4. The Cubs also parted ways with Starlin Castro but got pitcher Adam Warren and infielder Brendan Ryan. This move was a bit tough for some Cub fans but it had to be done and to get two established veterans out of the deal is worth it. Evident in the moves made this offseason is the fact that the Cubs are making a push to contend for the World Series once again. (AP Photo/Atlanta Journal & Constitution, Curtis Compton)
